Amazon Files Lawsuits Against Bad Actors for False Copyright Claims

Amazon has taken legal action against bad actors who have made false copyright infringement claims in order to have products removed from the Amazon Store. These individuals submitted thousands of fraudulent claims against Amazon’s selling partners, which not only restricted customer choice but also caused harm to Amazon’s selling partners and undermined the credibility of Amazon’s store. To protect its selling partners, Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit (CCU) has launched an offensive against these bad actors and is providing tools like launched in 2017 the Amazon Brand Registry to prevent further abuse. The CCU is a team of experts formed to work with brands and law enforcement agencies to hold bad actors accountable.
