Walmart’s New Sustainability Initiatives: What Do They Mean for Marketplace Sellers?

Walmart unveiled several new initiatives to reduce waste associated with its online orders. The company is shifting from plastic to recyclable paper mailers, optimizing cardboard box packaging, offering customers the option to consolidate shipping, and providing an opt-out for single-use plastic bags for online pickup orders. Marketplace sellers using WFS will be part of this sustainability drive.

3rd party sellers shipping independently and not using WFS won’t be directly impacted. Yet, aligning with these eco-friendly practices could appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. This change signifies an opportunity for sellers to adapt and capitalize on the growing green consumer trend.
