Marketplace vs. 1P Suppliers at Walmart
At Walmart, 1P suppliers sell products directly to Walmart, which then handles storage, pricing, and customer service. In contrast, 3P marketplace sellers use Walmart’s platform to sell directly to customers, managing their inventory, pricing, and shipping. 1P suppliers benefit from Walmart’s distribution and marketing, while 3P sellers have more control over their listings and interactions. Understanding these differences helps businesses choose the best model for their needs.
Walmart DSV Program Requirements
Before you apply for DSV, you need to make sure you meet all the requirements and meet Walmart’s standards. Walmart is pretty strict with measuring seller’s performance and not meeting those standards lead to suspension.
Should you apply to the 1P program?
Being a 1P supplier works for some companies, but not all. It’s recommended to start selling on Walmart as a 3P seller and use WFS services. Typically, sellers are invited by Walmart to become 1P suppliers after achieving success as 3P sellers. Therefore, we recommend applying to Marketplace as a 3P seller, where you have more control over your products and prices. Being a Walmart supplier is about volume and high demand, so you will need to offer very competitive prices, negotiated by Walmart, and sign a long-term commitment.
How to apply to become a Walmart DSV?
- Before you begin, you need to know that completing the registration process for Walmart DSV or warehouse supplier does not guarantee approval.
- A seller will need to provide the required information and documents to tell Walmart more about their company. This is the checklist with the information that domestic suppliers should be prepared to provide in order to become a fully qualified supplier of Walmart.
