Prosper Show 2025 Interview: Daniel Sodkiewicz on Walmart Marketplace Trends

During Prosper Show 2025 in Las Vegas, I (Daniel Sodkiewicz) had the chance to be interviewed by the Walmart Marketplace team. We discussed the future of eCommerce, how Walmart is adapting to emerging trends, and what sellers can do to succeed on the platform. Here’s a quick summary of the video—plus a few extra thoughts I had prepared but didn’t get to say on camera.

A Bit About Me and GeekSeller
I’m one of the co-founders of GeekSeller—a multichannel order and inventory management platform. In short, we help eCommerce businesses sync their products, inventory, and orders across marketplaces like Walmart, Amazon, Shopify, and more. My role combines business development and partnerships, but with a background in programming and design, I also stay close to our product and tech team.

What’s Changing in eCommerce and How Walmart Responds
Walmart is moving fast. They’re investing heavily in AI—not just for search and recommendations, but also for inventory planning, content optimization, and logistics. Customers want faster deliveries, and Walmart is meeting those expectations with 1-day shipping, same-day delivery, and even drone delivery in some areas.

One thing I find fascinating is how seamlessly Walmart blends in-store and online shopping. It’s not just eCommerce anymore—it’s true omnichannel commerce.

Hot Product Categories and Where Growth Is Happening
There’s been huge growth in areas like refurbished electronics, health & wellness, and home improvement. We’re also seeing a rise in B2B sales and demand for sustainable or premium products. Walmart is clearly making room for these trends, opening up more opportunities for sellers.

How Sellers Can Stay Ahead
Use the tools Walmart gives you—WFS for fast shipping, the repricer for competitive pricing, Walmart Connect for ads, and review programs to boost trust. Keep your shipping templates clean and review your account health regularly (daily if you can). And of course, keep your inventory synced—this is where GeekSeller comes in handy.

If you’re building your brand, join Walmart’s Brand Portal. It protects your brand and unlocks more features.

What Makes Walmart Marketplace Stand Out
Walmart isn’t just another marketplace—it’s a curated platform. You need approval to join, which helps maintain quality and gives sellers less competition compared to open marketplaces.

Also, Walmart actually listens. As a partner, we have weekly calls with their team. If something urgent happens, I can reach out directly and often get a response in minutes. That kind of partnership and transparency is rare.

The Trust Factor
Want customer trust? Start with the basics—ship on time, don’t cancel orders, and reply quickly. Make sure your listings are clear and honest. WFS gives your products that extra trust signal (“fulfilled by Walmart”), and getting a Pro Seller badge can also help with credibility.

Looking Ahead: eCommerce in the Next Few Years
AI will keep changing the game—product recommendations, smart pricing, inventory forecasting, you name it. Sellers should start learning and using these tools now. Logistics will also be critical—having the right fulfillment partner can make or break your business.

And above all, quality matters. Reviews, branding, and fast delivery will be non-negotiable.

Key Takeaways for Sellers

  • Focus on product content, pricing, and shipping.
  • Take advantage of all Walmart tools—ads, promos, WFS, and review programs.
  • Stay flexible and adapt quickly to new features.
  • Check your account health metrics regularly.

Final Thoughts
After more than 10 years working with Walmart, I can say: they’re one of the most responsive and forward-thinking marketplaces out there. Their team is sharp, open to feedback, and fast to act. It’s an exciting space to be in—and we’re proud to be part of it, supporting sellers through tools, automation, and experience.
