Walmart Raises Return Rate Threshold to 9% for Resold Items

Walmart has updated its Seller Performance Standards by increasing the Return Rate threshold for Resold items from 6% to 9%.

This change recognizes that resold and pre-owned products naturally have higher return rates than new items. Customers may return these products more often due to cosmetic differences, condition expectations, or compatibility issues, even when the seller accurately describes the item.

By raising the threshold, Walmart is aligning its performance standards more closely with industry expectations. The update should reduce unnecessary penalties for sellers while still encouraging accurate listings, proper inventory management, and a good customer experience.

For sellers offering Resold inventory, this is welcome news. A higher threshold provides more flexibility and ensures performance is measured more fairly without lowering Walmart’s expectations for product quality and customer satisfaction.

The updated Return Rate standard for Resold categories is now 9%, while the 6% threshold continues to apply to most other product categories.
