USPS has introduced a new international service called USPS Delivered Duty Paid, or DDP. This option allows sellers to prepay import duties, taxes, and fees at the time of shipping, based on the destination country’s requirements.
The goal is simple. Remove surprise fees for buyers. With DDP, the recipient does not have to pay anything on delivery related to customs charges. This helps reduce failed deliveries, unhappy customers, and delays caused by unpaid duties.
The service was created in response to recent challenges around international tariffs and customs fees. USPS announced the decision back in November and officially launched the service at the end of January.
USPS Delivered Duty Paid is currently available for outbound shipments to Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom. More countries are expected to be added over time.
Eligible shippers can add DDP when sending packages via:
- Priority Mail Express International
- Priority Mail International
- First-Class Package International Service
The service can be purchased at retail counters, through Click-N-Ship, USPS APIs, or Global Shipping Software.
DDP is not available for PostalOne!, permit mailers, or for shipments created without USPS software or APIs.
For sellers shipping internationally, this is a meaningful step toward more predictable pricing and a smoother delivery experience for customers.

International Outbound USPS Delivered Duty Paid (DDP)
The U.S. Postal Service is now offering a new international extra service called USPS Delivered Duty Paid (DDP). USPS Delivered Duty Paid enables the sender to prepay import duties, taxes, and fees under the destination country’s requirements at the time of mailing.
USPS DDP intends to ensure delivery of merchandise to the recipient without any additional charges for import duties, taxes, and fees being due upon delivery. Eligible customers have the option to purchase USPS DDP as an extra service when sending goods via Priority Mail Express International (PMEI), Priority Mail International (PMI), and First-Class Package International Service (FCPIS), when available at a retail service counter, online using Click-N-Ship, through USPS APIs or using Global Shipping Software (GSS). USPS DDP is initially available for shipments to Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom – with expansion to other international destinations expected in the future.
Note: USPS DDP is not available for PostalOne!, permit mailers, or mailers who create their own shipping manifests or labels without using USPS software or APIs.
